Although Steve Morse is a great guitar player, Ritchie Blackmore is Deep Purple. I'd love to see him get back in the band for a tour, Jon Lord as well.

Deep Purple now is everyone except for Ritchie Blackmore (guitar) and Jon Lord (keyboards). They brought in Steve Morse and some other guy to replace them. As far as I'm concered...that's not the real Deep Purple. |

I agree, a shame that Blackmore and Lord aren't in there, but the other 2 will do good too, I hope

I like Deep Purple, with Ritchie Blackmore and with Steve Morse. I'm not sure if they're coming to my city. But I saw them last year..

Awesome band. I would probably go see them if they came to San Diego sometime. Doesn't look they are though.

I missed them last year.
Ian Paice is definitally one of my favorite drummers, a true rock drummer that ALWAYS gets overshadowed by John Bonham, and IMO Ian Paice is the better drummer. In fact, the entire band is always overshadowed by Led Zeppelin. Deep Purple was heavier and harder than anything else in their day (with the exception of possibly Black Sabbath), and a true kickass band. I only own In Rock on CD, but I've listened to their first several albums on vinyl, as well as Made in Japan, in addition to a rare vinyl of them playing with the London Philharmonic with a piece written by Jon Lord. IMO as long as 3 of the original lineup (excuse me the Mk. 2 lineup, the original lineup was different then the famous one) are in the group, then I'm fine. They have the singer (Ian Gillian?), which is usually more important than the other instrumentalists. But still, I'd like to have at least Jon Lord in as well. I think Blackmore might have problems with the group though. |

I'm not really up to snuff on any Deep Purple information. Why/when did Ritchie Blackmore leave Deep Purple?

Everybody in that band is amazing, but probably couldve made many more great songs with better songwriting skills. Ashame that blackmore had to go and Lord - their my two favorite members. Sopposedly two equally or better talented people have replaced them. I still wonder why they toured the upper east coast but never came to Philadelphia....
I have their Made in Japan Live CD. Undoubtably the best Live album Ive ever heard. |

And while you could argue that Morse is as talented as Blackmore on guitar...but he insists on playing too many jazz-fusionish lines rather than just rocking balls out the way Blackmore did. He's got the chops but lacks the attitude for me basically. |

I bought their Greatest Hits album and read the incredibly detailed little booklet. I had known literally nothing about them, and had only heard a few of their songs. Talk about a band that's stuck it through. It was pretty funny, because my mom never knows any of the bands that sing whatever songs, just the actual songs, so when I put in the CD and "Hush" came on, she freaked out and was like "I remember this song!" Same with my stepmom. Pretty funny
