Band Profile: Flogging Molly
Flogging Molly

Dave King was born in Dublin, Ireland, where he learned to play mandolin, tin whistle and the spoons with his family. He came over to the states to play his acoustic guitar at some run-down clubs and making some money by cleaning toilets. It was 1989 during this time for him, then years later Flogging Molly forms. They come out with their first release titled “Alive behind the Green Door”. It was a live CD recorded in 1997. You may be thinking, “who would waste their money on a live CD”, but this CD has tracks that aren’t on any of their other full lengths such as “Never Met a Girl Like You Before”, “What Made Milwaukee Famous”, “Between a Man and a Women”, “Laura” and “Delilha”. So, it is not a complete waste of money. Then 3 years later they came out with their first full length CD titled Swagger. This CD had hits on it such as “Salty Dog”, “Devils Dance Floor” and “The Worst Day Since Yesterday”. It was a great introduction to one of the best bands of all time. 2 years later the mo fo’s were at it again, releasing “Drunken Lullabies”, another full length CD. This CD great songs such as “Drunken Lullabies”, “What’s Left of the Flag” and my personal favorite “Rebels of the Sacred Heart”. This is my favorite CD of the 4 they have put out. 2 years and few tours later, they release “Within a Mile of Home”. This CD features songs such as “Seven Deadly Sins”, “Factory Girls”, and “Tobacco Island”. It kept the Flogging Molly fans happy. This lead to their fall tour with The Briggs and Street Dogs, which I hope you got to attend. You probably don’t agree with the fact that they are really Irish. Well, that is where you are wrong. They have all the Irish instruments that they need. They aren’t from Ireland, but as far as I am concerned, they don’t have to be. They are doing what they want to do. And what that is, is make good music with distorted guitars and a whistle. Tell me, have you ever found another band like that . . . aside from Dropkick Murphys? Most people say that Dropkick Murphys made Flogging Molly, but they didn’t. DKM wasn’t too Irish until after Flogging Molly came out, so there is no argument with that. Flogging Molly is certainly one of the best bands around right now, in my opinion and they will continue to be one of my favorites until the day I die. Thanks for reading all this ~Chris~ |

I've recently been getting into them a lot. I always liked them, but nowadays, I find myself listening to them constantly. Swagger is one of the best CD's I own. And I personally really like the new CD. I don't know why it was received the way it was. It wasn't revolutionary or different, but it still is just a good chunk of music.
Nice job on the profile. |

Good profile.
The new CD is good, it's just a little slower and more "folksy" I guess you could say than their others, which is a bit different for them. I just think people were expecting another Drunken Lullabies. |
