Black Jack Johnson
I dont know if you've heard of this. I just heard about it myself. Anyways a guy in my grade who likes hip-hop was showing me this in tech class:
It's a new rock/punk/hardcore? (not sure exactly yet) band called Black Jack Johnson named after Jack Johnson (1878-1946), the first black man to win the heavyweight boxing championship of the world, in 1908, when he knocked out Tommy Burns in Australia. The members include: Mos Def - Vocals Will Calhoun from The Living Colour - Drums Doug Wimbish from The Living Colour - Bass Bernie Worrell - Keyboard Dr. Know (aka. Gary Miller) from Bad Brains - Guitar It sounds very interesting. They have already started some touring. You can download some live mp3's on kazaa but they are horrible recordings (the sound is bad)... Anyways I am really curious to hear this. I mean Mos Def, two guys from The Living Colour and Dr. Know from BAD BRAINS!!! Check it out: http://www.mosdefinitely.com/blackjack.htm |
