effects pedals??

I am courious if they have to be specific to a bass or will any pedal do? I currently have an ibanez pd7 and love it but would like to play with a effect board or something to that extent. again does it have to be specificaly for a bass guitar? and THX for any input!

regular guitar pedals do work, but Bass pedals sound a hell of a lot better, even though there are like 1/10 as many bass pedals as there are guitar pedals, which gets me mad. lol.

No... bass pedals work much better with basses. Guitar pedals you can use if you want a particular tone that you know you will get from it... but it really wont sound too good at all.

For example, guitar wahs sound horrible with bass, you cant even hear the sweep! , but with a bass wah, OMGWTFPWN.

Let's say it the otherway, anyone tried putting a guitar through a basspedal? Did it work out fine?

I put my guitar through my multi-fx pedal, and it didn't sound too hot.

It was really quiet, nothing to write home about.

Hehe, sounds like there's different opinions about the basspedal>guitar thing Or it may be the different pedals.. Im thinking about buing a Ibanez PD7 Overdrive so I was wondering if it would be possible to lend it to my guitarist when I don't use it...

Im quite uneducated about pedals...can someone just give me quick straightforward functions for the following ones?

Chorus
Reverb
Envelope
Octave

And the thing that makes your tone sound...cosmic, like bubbly, underwater-esque I hope you know what I mean

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't call myself a "pedal-pro" or anything :P but i can try to explain some of the functions (Its hard to describe what sounds sound like). Chorus is like a echo after every tone. Envelope Filter gives you a reallt hard to explain fonky tone. Octave changes your octave (seven nation army) usually on guitar. I do not know how to explain reverb

Not to be critical but music shops kinda suck to buy things from. Not only do they charge you more because of the delivery cost they must spend, but they dont carry a wide variety of product. Your better off to order things offline from places like musiciansfriend.com

bass pedal has the word BASS in it
guitar pedal has the word GUITAR in it
that normaly means its meant for that instrument (b4 u get picky i know u can call a bass a 'bass guitar')
bass effects pedals sound a hell lot better than guitars effects pedals on a bass.
sum guitar effects simply wont work well on basses. better off buying bass effects pedals for ur bass. and leave guitar effects pedals for guitarists
