You can probably find a used Stingray for that price.

Dude, you can get a SUB from here and here for £549. I dunno about finding a used StingRay for that price, though.

Can't you try it in your local music store then order off either of those?

True, there's always a chance that you might get a duffer, but that chance is very slim, especially when the bass is made by a comany like MusicMan. It's highly unlikely that you will get a badly built bass. Plus, there's a vast number of people on these boards that have bought basses online without any complaints about shipping, quality of goods etc.

SUB - iv never played one, but on here iv heard they aren't that great for what they are..... if you want a stingray or sterling id go with a used one.... also have a look at:

-Warwick Rockbass
-Second Hand Warwicks
-Mid Range Ibanez (Look at the SR series)
-Cort (Artisan, especially the A series)

just as a starting guide... the 400-600 price range you have a huge choice, varying from some overpriced basses to some which should be priced at so much more

The S.U.B and the Stingray are actually quite alike... The tone you can get from either is pretty much the same...
