free will challenge

Those who believe in free will

Can you give a biologically plausible explanation

I mean if the brain is deterministic then how are any of our actions not deterministic

maybe i'm acting out of predetermination but still, as my year 12 history teacher Mr. Powell once told me as a dying cancer victim in the most cringeworthy, motivational way possible -

"If it is to be, it is up to me"

i'll leave the debate to people with too much spare time

There probably is no such thing as free will but the actual physical process that is deterministic in nature is so complex that it's almost like free will.

Yeah I don't really think true free will as people like to think it is really exists. This sort of raises a bunch of ethical questions.

so far all the arguments in favor of free will I've heard are

"I make decisions

thus, free will"

i just "made a decision" to type this response but it was a totally bounded decision and didn't require any willful action on my part

it's strange that I'm reading about schizophrenia now

no they don't have free will either

their particular form of lacking free will is maladaptive though
