REVIEW: 20" Zildjian K Heavy Ride.
20”Zildjian K Heavy Ride
Introduction I bought this cymbal while I was in search of a good cymbal for metal. I wanted something that would cut and had lots of ping and a nice powerful bell. In the end, it was down to three cymbals. The 20” Zildjian A Ping Ride, 20” Zildjian A Earth Ride, and the 20” Zildjian K Heavy ride. The Earth ride was far too dry for my liking. It has absolutely no wash and sounded like a sewer lid. The Ping ride was too bright for me. The Heavy ride combined the darkness of the Earth ride and the pinginess of the ping ride. It gave me the perfect sound for everything I needed. Sound This cymbal is meant for heavier playing and it delivers perfectly. It’s a very musical ride with not a lot of complexity. It has a drier sound with a little more wash than most heavy rides. It makes a terrible crash because it is so thick but it makes up for it with it’s amazing bell. The bell of this cymbal cuts like no other bell I’ve heard. Price Being one of Zildjian’s top cymbal lines, this thing didn’t come cheap. The fact that I don’t live in the US doesn’t help either. I payed a whopping $275CAD for this ride but while the number is high, I think it is well worth the cash. It’s an amazing cutting cymbal that’s good for much more than you would think. I think the only thing this cymbal couldn’t do is jazz. Conclusion Overall I would give this cymbal a 4/5 simply because of the price. While it is well worth it, that is a lot of money to drop on one cymbal. Other than that, the cymbal is amazing. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Panopticon; 08-24-2007 at 01:08 AM. |

"It has a drier sound with a little more wash than most heavy rides"
I thought drier usually meant less wash>? In any case, good review. I was thinking of one of these to trade in for my k custom dry ride as it also is dry (hence the name) but lacks cutting power and oomph in my opinion. |

Nicely done. I actually do use mine quite often for jazz, though usually big band. It probably would not work well in a combo setting. I would like to have a secondary, lighter ride as well, but The K Heavy serves me well in all styles.

thats exactly it spirit...it has lots of stick definition...but with a bit of wash as well.
To Billdrum: That's why i got my 20" AA Medium ride. The bell on it sucks but it gives me a nice wash for softer more acoustic stuff i play with my band. |
